The Division of Blind Services is celebrating 85 Years
of Empowering Independence

For 85 years, the Division of Blind Services (DBS) has been dedicated to helping blind and visually impaired Floridians achieve independence, pursue meaningful careers, and lead full, self-directed lives. Since our founding in 1941, DBS has grown into a statewide network that provides comprehensive services to individuals of all ages—from infants and students to working adults and seniors.

Our Core Services

Our programs are designed to meet a wide range of needs, including:

• Individual Services that help clients build skills for daily living, education, and employment
• Employer Services to support hiring and workplace success
• The Florida Braille and Talking Book Library, one of the largest and most utilized libraries of its kind in the nation
• The Business Enterprise Program, which provides entrepreneurial opportunities for eligible individuals to operate vending and food service businesses

As we honor 85 years of service, our mission remains the same: to advance independence, opportunity, and dignity for all Floridians with visual impairments.
