Oceans of Possibilities: Kids/Teens Summer Reading 2022
Join the Florida Braille and Talking Book Library for the Kids and Teens Summer Reading Program! Ocean life, treasure hunting, conservation, and the possibilities of the imagination are all represented in this summer’s book choices.
Parents, prevent the dreaded “summer slide” that can happen over the summer between school years. retaining the information and gains in reading levels that they’ve achieved throughout the entire school year. All that valuable progress made during the school year slips down and you need to start again- keep the levels up by reading just start by setting aside 20 minutes a day for reading quietly if they are reluctant readers. Or, set a challenge of 3 books a week if they are proficient.
We have great titles to enjoy, and wonderful incentives to share! themed water bottles, canvas bags, and lanyards- along with surprises sent out each week!

We have book lists for each grade level, but recommendations are just that. They might be a little too advanced, or, too easy for your child.
We hope you will enjoy these titles in the theme, but if you need more suggestions, just email in and we will help you out! It’s not as important what, where, or how you read, by audio or braille, but the fact that you read ANYTHING is the most important thing.
Why children and parents should read together
Doctors recommend that parents read with their children beginning as early as infancy and continuing through elementary school years.
Reading with your children builds warm and happy associations with books, increasing the likelihood that kids will find reading enjoyable in the future.
Reading at home boosts school performance later. It also increases vocabulary, raises self-esteem, and builds good communication skills.
How to Best Enjoy the Program:
You can read any of the books from the lists in any order, or amount. You can also email me for suggestions if you would like to read off topic. The idea is to also explore the vast ocean of possibilities of ideas and new adventures the library has to offer. You do need to send in a count of books to keep getting fun incentives, and you will need to send short reviews in order to be in the drawing for the themed incentives.
The activities are organized by themes and weeks. You can open the Chapters in order or skip ahead if one looks more exciting. Send in a picture of you and your family enjoying the weekly activities. There’s no wrong way to do it, just send in the pictures to be eligible for the drawing for the themed incentives.
